Kicking and screaming into the 21st century!

Kicking and screaming into the 21st century!

Well, ol’ Aunt Hannah convinced me to begin blogging about our Geneva and her daily goings-on. I suppose this will really make things simple for those of you seeking updates, recent photos, and the like. The title of this post is purposefully misspelled just to illustrate what kind of a bloggy world us Oviatts are entering into. It’s an inside joke of sorts. This first post will be a little lengthy just to get everyone up to speed and then we should settle into a pattern of blurbs and brief musings.

Anyhoo, on to the more interesting bits about our little bit Geneva. She happens to be napping at the moment. I should actually be in the shower while she sleeps – y’know, taking full advantage of some “me time”. I actually despise that particular phrase and think it sounds pretty selfish. This time in Geneva’s life is relatively small when taken in context of the Big Picture. “Me Time” will come eventually. I have to keep reminding myself of this when the child just won’t go to sleep or is being trying…

Geneva will be four months old on August 25. It’s shocking to me how fast she’s growing and developing. A few folks have commented on how she’s become her own little person. Her personality is forming it’s edges and it’s neat to see. As most of you know, Geneva’s a smiley girl. She has a happy temperament and fusses very little.

Well, except for bedtime. We’ve been having difficulties recently with bedtime – with both the ‘going to sleep’ part AND the ’staying asleep’ part. After two straight months of glorious sleeping-through-the-night, Lil G has decided to rouse us with EARLY morning serenades. Typically, I can pop the Bink in her mouth and she’s back out. However, last night was a tough one. She nursed twice and still fussed and fought sleep. She ends up getting hungover by morning and sleeps really late or takes a marathon nap. As some of you may know, we’re attempting the full-on transition into her crib and it’s not going so hot. She naps in her crib and is happy as a clam. But nighttime is a different beast all together – Geneva screams like we’re pinching her toes and twisting her ears. Rob and I have pretty involved whispered discussions on what steps to take next. We’re looking into options like:

  • tricking her (by removing her once she’s asleep from her bed of choice to the crib)
  • letting her cry-it-out (which has merited enough discussion for it’s own blog post)
  • swaddling her (which could possibly just be another bad habit to break)
  • and letting her just stay where she is until “she’s ready” (but I’m dubious as to whether a child this small would actually indicate, “Hey Mom, move me into the crib now”).

That’s about where we stand with things now. I’ll be back at another free moment to add on. We love y’all!

nice job on the site, mom! You have a star subject for blogging. I like the name and everything. Reminds me of Inspector Gadget.

She is beautiful – love the picture in the frilly bonnet and dress. Rob, I know you don’t want every thing pink for her all the time, but sometimes a girl just has to go for it! Hope the bed/sleep is working better. You are good parents and it will all work out in time!

Her Great Uncle and Aunt swear by the principles of “Baby Wise”. Three very different girlies who all slept through the night (12 hr nights that is) by 4 months! It is miraculous!
