The Comings and Goings of Lil G

I think all the crying being done around here has had an unintended effect: Geneva has started burbling a little more. This evening before bath time, she began ooohing and ahhhing in a staccato fashion. She seemed to trying different sounds and was forming her lips cautiously while making the noises. Rob said we’ve hit the beginning of the end. Ha ha.

The new foot game is continuing also. Lil’ G appears to be right-side dominant. She’s a little quicker to grasp with her right hand and the right foot is the one that’s doing all the dancing in the air right now. G sorta kicks it out and touches her toes.

The hand/eye coordination is coming along nicely. Most everything put in her hands goes directly to her mouth! Geneva’s favorite toy right now is a rattle that has a round ring and stuffed bee attached to the ring. She’ll hold the ring in one hand and slap the rattle against the ground for a few minutes at a time. I think she likes the noise. When not rattling the rattle, she likes to chew on the fuzzy antennae of the bee. After a while of nibbling and noisemaking, Geneva will get pretty mad that she can’t fit the round part of the rattle in her mouth and she’ll toss it to the side.

Day 2 of Poo Watch has come and gone with no sign of action. I think Geneva’s holding out for Aunteee Hannah’s birthday party tomorrow. Won’t that be some gift!!

Geneva got to see her Uncle Pat and Aunt Krystal yesterday before they flew back home to Austin, TX. She treated them to a few smiles and giggles before her usual bedtime meltdown. Last night was more of the same, with a couple changes: I fed her at 11 p.m. (which hasn’t happened for some time) and brought her into bed with me until she fell asleep. I know, I know. The Peanut Gallery out there probably wants to collectively konk me over the head for doing it, but nothing else is working.

After an hour nap from 8-9 p.m., she was awake for two more hours crying off and on. She would sleep 5 minutes, be awake for 10 minutes, etc. I finally fed her, thinking that might be the issue and she kept on. At about 11:20, after Rob and I had ripped some of our hair out, I brought her into bed with me where she promptly fell asleep. I woke up around 12:30 a.m., put her in her car seat in her room and roused Rob off the couch (he was watching the Olympics and fell asleep). She woke up at 5:30 a.m. for a feeding and then proceeded to break all records and sleep until 10:30 a.m.! I started getting antsy around 10 a.m. because I DEFINITELY do not want her to start experiencing some kind of day/night reversal like she had when she was really tiny.

So, until I talk to the pediatrician on Tuesday, we’re going to forego the crying business and just proceed as normal (normal = crying+binky). If I have to take her to bed with me again tonight, I’ll do it. Maybe I can figure out some way to parlay the comfort/security she felt in bed with me to her own crib. I might need to get a comfy chair…
